Football in the Art Galleries - Daily Dispatch, March 1953

FOOTBALL IS FINDING ITS WAY into the art galleries. Liege-born FRANCOISE TAYLOR has found Bolton (of all places) a fascinating town for the artist, and in her show at Salford has a scene from Burnden Park.

Mrs Taylor, 32 years old and with a reputation in Belgium for book illustrations, has no illusions about her adopted home town.

She doesn't try to hide the dirt or deplore the national sport as unworthy of the artist's notice. She draws the mills as they are and football as staged by the Cup semi-finalists, Bolton Wanderers. Bolton may be typical of smoky Lancashire to you. To at least one woman it is fascinating.
