I mentioned your message to my father (91) and he said the name 'Potter' is familiar and that it makes sense because your father was a signaller, and my father's platoon contained signallers. His name was fred potter sometimes known to his army mates as gilly potter. He served in the same regiment as your father and could not remember many facts and figures of where he whent in the war so when I stumbled upon your fathers diary I was astonished to see an entry that reads POTTER lost two fingers this was my DAD. He did in fact lose one finger but for the rest of His life had shrapnel in the finger next to it and under battle conditons your father would of thougt He lost them both. thanks for publishing this as i can now trace where my father was. p.s my father was a signaler and at 96 could still remember morse code. just read your fathers war diary can't tell you how much this means to me as i lost my father on saturday 22 august 2009.
