Disable ClearType in IE9

Apparently it can't be done. There's no option to disable ClearType fonts in Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 (IE9). This seems a strange decision by Microsoft. It should be possible to enable pixel fonts in their browser just as it is in Windows 7. IE9 is very fast though.

In IE8 there was a Multimedia checkbox "Always use Cleartype" you could uncheck. This has gone in IE9. ClearType supposedly enhances the display by smoothing the edges of screen fonts on Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) devices like flat screen monitors and laptop computers. Fair enough (I don't mind it myself) but this move seems to force the use of competing browsers (Firefox, Google Chrome, or Opera) if you want the pixel font option on Windows 7. People complain ClearType makes text fuzzy and blurred; small text sizes especially. It does.
